Siri Successfully Ported To iPhone 3GS, Dictation And Voice Commands Run As Smoothly As On iPhone 4S/3GS [VIDEO]

Yes, you read it right! Legendary iPhone hacker chpwn has, with a little help from stroughtonsmith, managed to successfully port Apple’s new system-wide voice recognitionfeature through to the equally legendary old-timer that is the iPhone 3GS.

iPhone 3GS Siri copy

The iPhone 3GS has been a great asset to Apple since it’s launch all the way back in the middle of 2009, and continues – to this day – to sell and compete with more recent devices on the smartphone market.

Since Siri was launched along with iPhone 4S as an exclusive feature to Apple’s very latest smartphone, it has scarcely been away from the headlines. Developers have been plugging away to see what the software can really do when unleashed, and if the progress thus far is anything to go by, Siri will be singing songs whilst flipping eggs for your breakfast in no time!

Jokes aside, though, the latest inroads only further increase the suspicion that the fruit company kept Siri as an iPhone 4S-only feature in order to increase sales. It was said that Apple’s first dual-core smartphone was the only device capable of handling the new, exciting technology; but the work of chpwn and friends has certainly made that claim appear as a simple, sensible marketing ploy.

Although it appears to run as smoothly on the aging 3GS as it does on its younger brother, and the predictable kinks are currently still being ironed out. Activator integration is also subject to further testing, so as we say, the 3GS port is not yet the finished article. It’s exciting nonetheless, and even connects to Apple’s servers. More importantly, it demonstrates just how dedicated and talented the hackers and developers are. Here’s the video demonstration for your viewing pleasure:

How cool is that?

Those who doubted the need for jailbreaking and hacking to continue with Apple bringing 200 new features to iOS 5, (many of which had been lingering annoyances since day one), need look no further than here, because despite the positive progress being made by the Cupertino company in delivering the updates to its mobile operating system, the inroads being made within the jailbreaking spectrum are just as exciting – and just as important in dictating the future direction of iOS.

The tool will perform all operations completely automatically, without the user having to manually enter DFU mode.

As specified by pod2g, for the first time you use the system restore backup to perform the jailbreak, which is why the iPhone will display the screen ” Restore in Progress “during the operation rather than the typical recovery mode. The device will be well prepared for the step to jailbreak.

3. After the restore, the iPhone will reboot and Absinthe will begin to send the files necessary to install the iPhone OS loader to Absinthe that will be inserted in the Home of the device. Caution Even if the iPhone will be open to all intents and purposes, is important not to use it during this process! This operation may take several minutes.

4. Finished transferring files, you can disconnect the device from your computer. Now you just have to open the ‘ Application “Absinthe” installed on your iPhone. It is a sort of loader (just as happened with Greenpois0n and Limera1n) that connects directly to the site of the Chronic Dev-Team and allows the installation of Cydia. After launching the iPhone application will load an internet page (one of the Chronic Dev-Team) and will restart after a few seconds as if it was being repaired and re-ignition has replaced the Cydia app Absinthe.

cydia app absinthe

And that’s it! You have completed the process of jailbreak Cydia and now should be on your device.

installed cydia absinthe

In case of errors or problems with the guide, be sure to carefully follow the steps below.

Note : If, after launching “Absinthe” on IOS, appears the message ” Error connection to database estabilishing “, will not be able to complete the installation of Cydia because of an excessive load on the servers of the Chronic Dev-Team. Over the next few days (or in the next few hours) should stabilize the situation. One solution, as suggested by Planetbeing, is to enable the “VPN” from the Settings and launch the application again. Ignore any errors and wait. Installation Cydia should it be successful.

Note :

See Our post Spire Free Siri Proxy Host List Servers

Here’s What Chpwn discriped Spire on his blog :

However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. I’ve put up a list of my ideas on how you might get access to a proxy; hopefully you can figure something out.
How to install Siri on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G, iPad – [After installing Spire]
There’s any number of ways for you to get a proxy that will help you connect Siri to Apple. Here’s a few of my ideas:
westbaer’s SiriProxy fork
Own an iPhone 4S too: Maybe you already own an iPhone 4S, and just want Siri on another device of yours. This is simple; you can just use the above proxy yourself.
Find a friend: Maybe your friend has an iPhone 4S and will let you use their authentication tokens (maybe in exchange for some cool SiriProxy plugins). Then, you can share the authentication. Or, maybe you gave your relative your old iPhone when you got your iPhone 4S: now you can share your token and give them Siri.
Pay up: It’s very likely that soon we will see for-pay services online to rent you some space on a Siri proxy, attached to one of their iPhone 4S devices. I haven’t seen anything like this yet, but I’ll keep my eye out, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to set something like this up.
And now for something completely different: As I suggested earlier, you might be able to replace Siri entirely. A simple method might be to use Google Chrome’s speech “API” hooked up to some code to decode the Siri requests and parse Google’s result. Or, someone could hook it up to some logic backends like many of the clones available on Android: the possibilities are endless.

You MUST have

jailbroken device on iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 with Redsn0w and Corona Tweak for iOS 5.0.1 Tethered Jailbreak , you can follow our Guides.

UnTethered 5.0.1 Jailbreak with Corona Cydia Tweak Download

How to Convert my iOS 5.0.1 Tethered Jailbreak to iOS 5.0.1 UnTethered Jailbreak ? Since the links for Redsn0w 5.0.1 Jailbreak released for who restore iSO 5.0.1 without Jailbreak.

UnTethered 5.0.1 Jailbreak with Corona Cydia Tweak

there’s an alternate method to do the untethered jailbreak. You can currently use a new jailbreak tool available in Cydia named “Corona” to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered. Below we’ll show you how.

P0sixninja, the brain member of the Chronic Dev Team, developed a Cydia tweak called “Corona” and uploaded it Cydia for users who already have a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1.

You’ll need to do a tethered jailbreak first using previous redsn0w version. You can follow how to do a tethered jailbreak on your A4 device running iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.

How To Convert Tethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak with Corona:

STEP 1: Assuming your device is already jailbroken, head to Cydia and leave it till the update is finished.

STEP 2: Once updated, search for “Corona 5.0.1 Untether” under BigBoss repository and you’ll be able to download it for free by hitting the “Install” button on the top right of screen.

Once done, you’ll need to reboot your device and get your untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

Stay tuned for guides for both Redsn0w and GreenPois0n jailbreak tools.

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 With Redsnow 0.9.9b8

Apple released iOS 5.0.1 to the public for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. Just like previous releases – iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken using the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s tool, redsn0w. The new software, iOS 5.0.1, can be jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and the SemiTether tool can be used on iOS 5.0.1 to bring semi-tethered jailbreak.

Supported devices for the below guide:

  • iPhone 4 (semi untethered)
  • iPhone 3GS new bootrom (semi untethered)
  • iPhone 3GS old bootrom (untethered)
  • iPod touch 4G (semi untethered)
  • iPod touch 3G (semi untethered)
  • iPad 1 (semi untethered)

Of course the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreaks are not yet available. If you’re looking forward to fast & future jailbreak, better not upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Semi Untethered:

STEP 1: Download iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0.1 final version from down links.

STEP 2: Backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and restore it using the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file downloaded from the first step.

STEP 3: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows or Mac OS X

STEP 4: Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file (download here).

STEP

5: Now click on “Jailbreak” then “Install Cydia”. You’ll need to follow the on-screen instructions to get your device into DFU mode.

STEP 6: Once jailbroken, your device will be rebooted.

STEP 7: Now open Redsn0w again and hit “Extras” then “Just Boot”.

STEP 8: Now head to Cydia then search for “SemiTether” and install the tool:

NOTE: The last step about SemiTether is optional for users. It will allow you to reboot your device without need to a computer to connect to. You’ll lose some functions like opening mail and almost all jailbreak tweaks.

Download UnTethered Redsn0w 0.9.10 b1 Jailbreak 5.0.1

Dev-team has just pushed Redsn0w 0.9.10 b1 to jailbreak 5.0.1  untethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G and iPad 1. Pod2g was the guy behind 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, as he handed over his project to both Chronic Dev-team and iPhone Dev-team.

Download UnTethered Redsn0w 0.9.10 b1 Jailbreak 5.0.1

The two teams have made a major task on 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. iPhone Dev-team have put 5.0.1 untethered in to RedsnOw 0.9.10 b1 and PwnageTool. Chronic Dev-team put untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak into a Cydia package, thanks Pod2g and the both teams for making us happy.

Before starting to jailbreak 5.0.1untethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G and iPad – You have to know this :

Supported devices :

  • iPhone 4 (GSM – CDMA)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPad 1
  • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now!  The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1  If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW!    Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
  • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam.  The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
  • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration.  If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup!  You will most likely get into a reboot cycle.  Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.

Spire: First Legal Siri Port For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, iPad 1 Now Available On Cydia

Well known and respected developer chpwn has finally released first legal Siri port to public for older generation iOS devices. Dubbed as Spire, the port allows iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G/3G and first-gen iPad users, jailbroken on iOS 5, to run Siri, which has official been available only for iPhone 4S users.

image

Available for free on Cydia right now, the download comes in at around 100mb in size as it uses a new method to obtain all the necessary files legally directly from Apple’s servers.

There is however a catch to it. It is not as easy to get it running as it sounds. You will need to have your own Siri proxy setup, and an iPhone 4S for authentication to get it running on your older-gen iOS device. As explained by chpwn on his blog:

However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. I’ve put up a list of my ideas on how you might get access to a proxy; hopefully you can figure something out.

To get a Siri proxy, chpwn suggests:

  • westbaer’s SiriProxy forkPay up: It’s very likely that soon we will see for-pay services online to rent you some space on a Siri proxy, attached to one of their iPhone 4S devices. I haven’t seen anything like this yet, but I’ll keep my eye out, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to set something like this up.
    • Own an iPhone 4S too: Maybe you already own an iPhone 4S, and just want Siri on another device of yours. This is simple; you can just use the above proxy yourself.
    • Find a friend: Maybe your friend has an iPhone 4S and will let you use their authentication tokens (maybe in exchange for some cool SiriProxy plugins). Then, you can share the authentication. Or, maybe you gave your relative your old iPhone when you got your iPhone 4S: now you can share your token and give them Siri.
  • And now for something completely different: As I suggested earlier, you might be able to replace Siri entirely. A simple method might be to use Google Chrome’s speech “API” hooked up to some code to decode the Siri requests and parse Google’s result. Or, someone could hook it up to some logic backends like many of the clones available on Android: the possibilities are endless.

To install Spire package, simply head over to Cydia, search for “Spire”, and install it. You don’t need to add any new repo as it is available on Cydia’s default BigBoss repository.

You will obviously need to have a jailbroken device to get it to work. For jailbreaking iOS 5 tethered using Redsn0w, you canrefer google for complete step by step guide or if you want to use Sn0wbreeze on Windows. Since jailbreak on iOS 5 is currently limited to tethered boot only, you can install ‘SemiTether’ patch (instructions) from Cydia to make your jailbreak semi-tethered on iOS 5. For those of you on iOS 5.0.1 can refer google on how to jailbreak using Redsn0w, or using Ac1dSn0w (instructions withAc1dSn0w Beta 2 ), or  using Sn0wbreeze.
